Over the last 50 years Central Africa has built itself an incredible reputation for giving birth to many of the World’s greatest guitarists, and Congolese Niwel Tsumbu is a fitting ambassador to carry that torch forward into the 21st Century. Raised on the traditional Soukous and Rumba music of his homeland he began playing from an early age and went on to study both jazz and classical guitar.
 
Lead singer, guitarist and inspiration of Motema, Niwel Tsumbu with Troka on congas and Joshua on bass guitar deliver a fantastic and traditional performance of Congolese roots music with a contemporary twist.

Oleku seen performing at the Concern Marquee Tullamore

Oleku from Nigeria perform a very tight set of authentic Nigerian Afro-beat and Highlife, a genre of music very popular in West Africa.

Their full-sound defies the relatively small size of their band, with only 7 members they are about half the size of many Afrobeat ‘Orchestras’. Playing a mixture of their own songs along with covers of Femi & Fela Kuti numbers Oleku’s energy can be sure to rock-the-joint and get everyone dancing within minutes.
